What is Wireless Internet?

For FMB customers, wireless Internet is broadband (high-speed) internet using microwave radio.  There are no telephone lines involved.

What is 802.11?

802.11 is the generic term for technology used to transfer data via radio waves.  This technology in various forms allows for the high speed transfer of data.  FMB uses a combination of state of the art software and hardware to insure a quality experience for our customers.

How Does It Works?

There must be a clear line-of-site path between the customer's antenna and a FMB tower. The customer's computer sends information via CAT5 (network cable) to the CPE (our equipment) located at their house/business.  The CPE then sends the information by microwave to the tower.  This data is transferred from tower to tower to enter the DS3 (fiber line) located at FMB.

How Fast Is Wireless Internet?

Customer packages are available up to 3 mbs.  That is 3 million bits per second.  By comparison, a typical dial up customer in a rural area may get speeds of 28 thousand bits per second.  In that case, wireless is over 100 times faster.  Customers enjoy symmetric speeds meaning the upload and download speeds are equal according to the package selected.  See our services page for details on the various packages offered.

Always-On Connection!
Fixed Wireless Internet Access is an ‘always-on’ connection. This means you are never disconnected or dropped from the Internet. When you order our wireless Internet, you don’t need a phone line and a modem anymore, so there is no dial-up, no busy signals, no waiting, and no more being booted off by your current dial-up provider. You just click your email program or your Web browse and it’s there instantly! When you need it, we are there!

Cheaper Than Dialup!
When you factor in the cost of your current Internet Service Provider ($19.95) and the cost of a second phone line ($35.00), both of which you will no longer need, it’s actually cheaper to surf the net at higher speeds! Now that’s a No-Brainer!

Access The Internet With All Your Computers

Although FMB does not do any type of internal networking, you can connect all your computers to your wireless connection using a switch or router to set up an internal network.  The customer is responsible for installation and configuration of internal networks.  FMB does not provide support of internal networks however we will refer customers to qualified networking specialists for assistance. For further details on this option please call our technical support at (254) 697-6710 or toll free (866) 208-8522.
